Covid-19: Recoveries higher than new cases for first time in almost a month

The number of Covid-19 recoveries reported on Friday exceeded the number of new cases found for the first time in almost a month, health authorities shared in their latest update on the pandemic.

786 new cases of the virus were reported by health authorities on Friday, with 888 new recoveries reported as well.

The last time more recoveries than cases were reported was 12 December last year.

Meanwhile, an 86-year-old woman sadly died while positive for Covid-19, taking the number of deaths up to 485.

Malta now has 14,962 active cases of the virus.

123 patients – up by 9 since Thursday – are currently receiving treatment in Mater Dei Hospital, with seven of those in intensive care.

1,114,588 doses of the vaccine had been administered up until Thursday, with 261,838 of those being booster doses.

Malta has had 58,999 cases of the virus so far. 43,203 of those have recovered, while 485 of them have died.
