A Transport Malta official has reportedly been arrested by police over allegations of sexual harassment.
MaltaToday quoted sources on Thursday, saying that the official – who was described as being close to the Labour Party – was arrested after several female co-workers alleged to have been sexually harassed by him.
Contacted by The Malta Independent, a police spokesperson said that he could not confirm nor deny the news.
The arrest came the day after independent candidate Arnold Cassola sent an open letter to the Prime Minister saying that there is a systematic attempt at covering up the said official’s behaviour.
In a statement in reaction to the news, Cassola said: “They knew about the sexual harassment going on and they hushed up everything. The police must not stop at the material culprit. It is disgusting that politicians in power turn the blind eye to what is happening under their noses."
