43-year-old man arrested in Gozo in connection with alleged drug trafficking

A 43-year-old man from Victoria, Gozo was arrested during a police operation by the Anti-Drug Squad after he was found with drugs and firearms.

After receiving information about the possibility of drug trafficking during some Carnival activities in Gozo, the police began carrying out observations on a Nadur farm.

On Thursday at 10:00am, the police encircled the farm and arrested a man who was found to be armed with a pistol at the time.

Police immediately confiscated the weapons and during a search, the Anti-Drug Police which were assisted by Police from the Canine Section, found several bags of substances suspected to be cocaine and cannabis.

In addition to the suspected drugs, €53,000 in cash, two rifles and ammunition were also found. None of the weapons found were licensed.

Magistrate Simone Grech is conducting an inquiry assisted by a number of experts.

The man is expected to be brought before the Gozo Court today, at around 15:00 pm before Duty Magistrate Bridgette Sultana.
