Today is not justice, it’s a small step – Metsola

The President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, said Friday that the drama that unfolded in a Maltese courtroom today “is not justice, it is a small step”.

She was referring to the guilty plea filed by the Degiorgio brothers as they faced a trial by jury for the assassination of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia, Alfred and George Degiorgio had pleaded not guilty when the trial started, but changed their plea to guilty in the afternoon.

“Two more men have just admitted to the assassination of Daphne Caruana Galizia almost five years to the day after murdering her with a car bomb outside her home in Malta,” Metsola wrote on Facebook..

“It's been half-a-decade of agony for Daphne's family and for the country. Daphne still cannot write her blog, enjoy her children and grandchildren, potter in her garden or be with her loved ones. Today is not justice, it is a small step.

“Now for those who ordered and paid for it, those who protected them and those who spent years doing everything imaginable to try to cover it up…”
