Repubblika to hold another protest march: ‘Joseph Muscat and clique not invincible’

Thursday, 20 October 2022, 12:05 Last update: about 3 years ago

NGO Repubblika will be holding a protest march on Sunday.

It will be the third protest in a month – the first was held by the Nationalist Party on 2 October, while last Sunday a protest was held by Repubblika on the day of the fifth anniversary of the assassination of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia.

In a statement explaining the need for yet another protest on Sunday, Repubblika said that a clique of persons is “terrified of justice and are doing their utmost to resist change”.

“We are determined to get there,” Repubblika added.

It referred to a court judgment which forced the recusal of Magistrate Nadine Lia from hearing its case related to the Pilatus Bank. Judge Ian Spiteri Bailey ordered that the challenge proceedings filed by Repubblika be assigned to another magistrate "to ensure that justice is not only done, but is seen to be done".

In its statement today, Repubblika said that Magistrate Lia, instead of fighting criminals, acted as an obstacle to justice.
The first revolution that needs to take place is in our minds, the NGO said. “We need to believe that Joseph Muscat and his clique are not invincible. We are capable of beating them and obtain justice and change. They are terrified of justice.”

The protest will be held in Valletta, starting from near the Parliament building at 3.30pm.
