A 90-year-old man suffered grievous injuries in a traffic accident on Tuesday morning, police said.

Police said in a statement that the accident happened at around 9:10am in Triq Hal Tarxien in Gudja.

Preliminary investigations showed that the accident happened between a Nissan March being driven by a 90-year-old man from Santa Lucija, and a Toyota Corolla being driven by a 21-year-old man from Swieqi.

The elderly man was taken to Mater Dei Hospital where he was certified as suffering from grievous injuries.

Police investigations are ongoing.
