Sunday, 6 November 2022, 09:12 Last update: about 2 years ago

Our Lady of Victory church in Valletta will once again host the popular weekly lunchtime concert organised by Barocco Foundation in collaboration with Din l-Art Ħelwa. This recital will be held on Tuesday, 8 November at 12.30pm and presents top Gozitan violinist Pierre Louis Attard.

Entitled The Violin Sings, the programme features an eclectic repertoire with various masterpieces for solo violin by German Baroque masters Bach and Telemann, works by Piazzolla, King, Orff and Bacewicz from the 20th century as well as contemporary pieces by Fine and Vella.

The church of Our Lady of Victory, with its painted ceiling by baroque artist Alessio Erardi, is the first church of Valletta. It was built by Grand Master de Valette and the Order of St John after their victory in the Great Siege of 1565.  It has been restored by Din l-Art Ħelwa, voluntary National Trust of Malta.

After the concert, patrons are invited to the Basement Cinema for a free viewing of a short film about Grand Master de Valette and his first church describing the events that led to the building of the church and its subsequent development and restoration by Din l-Art Helwa.

Entrance is at a suggested donation of €10.

One can obtain the tickets prior to the concert from the venue itself; by email: [email protected] or by phoning on 7968 0952
