It is now more than a year ago that Russia invaded Ukraine. The loss of people and the destruction of the country are devastating. Millions of Ukrainians, mostly women and children, have been displaced of which a large number found protection in Malta.

Tomorrow Rotary Club Malta, in collaboration with SOS Malta and the Foundation for the Ukrainian Community of Malta, will be organising a special screening of the short documentary Ukraine: In the line of fire, produced by Maltese journalists Neil Camilleri and Giuseppe Attard, who will be present for a Question & Answer session.

With February being the Rotary Month of Peacebuilding and Conflict Prevention, this public event aims for support and to build an understanding of the ongoing needs of evacuated mothers, children and grandparents who have found safety and shelter in Malta.

Everybody hoped that the displaced Ukrainian families could soon return safely back to their homes and their loved ones, but unfortunately their future is uncertain due to the ongoing war and the destruction of tens of thousands of houses and crucial infrastructure.  

During the event, Claudia Taylor-East, CEO of SOS Malta, will explain why our local support is so much needed on key areas like improving the English and Maltese language skills, job-matching, finding their ways in Maltese society, providing psychological and social support and developing personal interactions as locals, buddies, kids or teenagers.
