Bolt to provide free rides for blood donors to/from National Blood Transfusion centre

Thursday, 1 June 2023, 09:57 Last update: about 12 months ago

Bolt will be providing free rides to people who want to donate blood, the company said in a statement Thursday.

The service is being provided in collaboration with the National Blood Transfusion Service in Malta. As a part of this collaboration, the ride hailing platform will offer free rides to people donating blood. Bolt will cover both rides (to and from) the blood donation centre in G’Manga. The collaboration will be live until the end of the year.

In order to book the ride, the donor would need to call the Blood Donation Centre to make the booking and a representative of the Blood Donation Centre will then provide a slot and book the ride via the Bolt app. Once the blood donation process has been completed, the Donation Centre would book the Bolt ride for the donor to take them home or at the destination of their choice.

Our collaboration with the National Blood Transfusion Service is a testament to Bolt's commitment to making a positive impact on the community. We understand the shortage of blood donations in Malta and the dire consequences it can have on people's lives. By offering free rides to potential blood donors, we aim to eliminate barriers and encourage more individuals to participate in this life-saving act. Together, we can help save lives and create a stronger, healthier Malta.” says Ryan Mahoney, Country Manager ride hailing at Bolt Malta.

Monique Debattista, Medical Director of the NBTS, commented: “We are looking forward to this collaboration. Our donors will benefit from a quality service which will allow easier access to blood donation at our main Donation Centre in G’Manga. Donors frequently remark about driving and parking issues, so this venture will most certainly address this. We continually strive to increase the blood stock, and making the donation experience easier contributes to better donor recruitment and retention, for the ultimate benefit of our patients.”
