A number of third-party properties will be expropriated and the owners will be compensated by the government in order for the St Andrews Road project to take place, Infrastructure Malta CEO Ivan Falzon said.

Falzon told The Malta Independent that both government and private property will be affected by the St Andrews Road project.

MaltaToday revealed that there are plans to implement two hairpin turns near Luxol Grounds to address the traffic bottleneck in Swieqi, instead of the previous plans to build a tunnel between St Andrews and St George’s Bay.

“These people were informed that their property was part of future road network expansions, so this is no surprise,” Falzon said.

In the case of private property, this land will be expropriated and the owners will be properly compensated according to established procedure by the Lands Department, Falzon said.

The plan also proposes widening a section of Triq Sant Andrija leading to Triq Villa Rosa by six metres on the side of the valley and the creation of a new road linking Triq il-Gwienaq to Triq Sant Andrija aimed at facilitating the flow of traffic within Swieqi.

There have been numerous works surrounding this road over the past few years which involved resurfacing and implementing concrete barricades and signage.
