Mohamed Ali Ahmed Elmushraty, known as 'Lilu King' returned to court on Tuesday, but questions about the case's direction were raised.

Magistrate Donatella Frendo Dimech asked "What are we trying to prove here?" when she challenged the approach of the prosecution

Lilu King has been held in preventative custody since his artraignment in May. He pleaded not guilty to charges associated with organised crime.

Testimony from police had indicated that he was also wanted in Libya for alleged murder charges.

Elmushraty's lawyer, Franco Debono, challenged the prosecution's case, particularly the drug trafficking allegations.

Frendo Dimech noted how the prosecution was meant to prove the "intricate web of persons involved in drug trafficking" headed by the accused, but evidence was not produced.

Attorney General lawyer Antoine Agius Bonnici acknowledged the slow progress, but highlighted the need for a meticulous approach in investigating complex crime.

The sitting ended with bail discussions, with the prosecution arguing against due to the accused being a potential flight risk, among other things.

Debono said Elmushraty's only wrongdoing seems to be his flamboyant social media presence.

The court was to issue a decree on bail in chambers.
