Man seriously injured in jewellery shop robbery

A man was seriously injured during a robbery on a Zurrieq jewellery shop on Friday evening, the police said.

The incident took place in Dun Guzepp Zammit Street at 8pm.

Upon arriving on site, the police found the shop’s door locked but they could see a man inside. The man was tied up and wounded.

A medical team and members of the Civil Protection Department were called on site.

Once the inside of the shop could be accessed, the injured man could be taken to hospital. The 67-year-old from Fgura was later found to be seriously injured.

It resulted that two persons had entered the shop, bound the man, and made off with several jewellery items.

Magistrate Victor Axiaq is leading an inquiry.
