Prime Minister Robert Abela said that government will continue pushing in favour of strengthening communication between government entities and the local councils, as well as for further investment in local councils for more environmental, infrastructural, and better service projects in the community.
In a meeting with the Mayors of all localities from around Malta and Gozo as well as the Regional Presidents on the 30th anniversary since the establishment of local councils, Abela said that government is committed to continuing to invest together with local councils in new and ambitious environmental projects, along with improved infrastructure and better services for the citizens in communities.

"The country needs the experience of local councils that act on the communities wishes," Abela said, adding that local councils should be the protagonists in moving forward with ideas.

He also noted the upcoming local council elections next year, and thanked local councils for the strong contribution on behalf of the Maltese and Gozitan communities, encouraging them to continue strengthening their commitment to their localities.
