The Malta Philharmonic Orchestra will be presenting Classical and Contemporary Colours on Friday, 31 May at the Manoel Theatre in Valletta.
Under the direction of Christopher Muscat, the MPO presents captivating works by Maltese composers, including Albert Garzia's Scent and Veronique Vella's Fine Line. Renowned pianist Kostantinos Destounis joins the orchestra for a stunning performance of Ravel's Piano Concerto in G. Then the audience is transported to Fingal's Cave with Mendelssohn's gem Hebrides Overture.
The highlight of the concert is Beethoven's Symphony No. 1. The turn of the 19th century brought with it the first of nine symphonies that revolutionised music. Despite being inherently classical, the symphony boasts innovative orchestration with unique textures and harmonisation.
