With an inspiring lineup of specialist antiques dealers the Northern Antiques Fair is to be held at The Garden  Rooms at Tennants, Leyburn, North Yorkshire for the fourth time from Thursday 26 to Sunday 29 September 2024.

Particular highlights include drawings by Harold Riley (1934-2023) of LS Lowry a friend since his student days, a hugely decorative Windsor chair, a Parkinson & Frodsham carriage clock, a pair of plaster angel wall mounted plaques originally owned by the sixth Duke of Devonshire, an incredibly rare map of the United Kingdom by Dutch cartographer Johannes Blaeu from 1659 and much more.

This prestigious event has been running since 1951, firstly in Harrogate and for the last three years at The Garden Rooms at Tennants. The fair has established a very loyal following over the years with many happy returning exhibitors as well as a sprinkling of new faces.

Capturing the timeless allure of antiques the range of works of art for sale includes period furniture including early oak, oil and watercolour paintings, maps, glass, sculpture, clocks, silver, Parian ware, jewellery, ceramics, rugs and a wealth of decorative and quirky items. Prices range from a few hundred pounds to five figure sums.

A rare art nouveau bronze Castanet Dancer with removable dress by Max Klein, Austrian c.1900. The separate cold painted bronze dress is fastened with a separate pin and comes with the original shagreen liner to protect the bronze. From Garret & Hurst Sculpture is Ballerina, a bronze art deco sculpture by Polish artist Samuel Lipchitz (1880-1943), c.1925 as well as a large selection of bronzes from Hickmet Fine Arts.

Provenance always plays a big part in the history of an antique and for someone looking to enhance their wall space The Antiques Bazaar has the perfect solution: A pair of bronzed angel wall brackets made by Jean Louis Phillips c.1840 and purchased from the Chatsworth Estate 'Attic Sale' held by Sotheby's in October 2010. They are mentioned in the Chatsworth Inventory 1859 p. 121 in the State Drawing Room (formerly the Tapestry Room) described as a pair of bronzed angel brackets. These angelic brackets were sold to the sixth Duke by the Parisian firm Sussé which from the 1830s was run by Victor Sussé (1806-1860) and by his Amedee (1808-1880).

Howards Jewellers from Stratford upon Avon create an exquisite display of silver and jewellery including a stunning single stone sapphire ring from Ceylon (now Sri Lanka) dated 1930 as well as a pair of fine early comports, "Summer & Winter", made by John Samuel Hunt, a nephew of renowned silversmith Paul Storr, 1847. Comports were used for serving nuts, fruits and sweets. Plenty more sparkle and choice can be found around the fair.

The fair also showcases paintings from all genres.

A visit to the fair is a wonderful opportunity to meet up with friends or family in the light and airy café or the bistro, both offering a fresh take on traditional British dishes.

The fair is continuing its ongoing successful charity alliance with RABI, the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution.
