Art by the Seaside Gallery, located at 65, Triq il-Mina was-Xatt in Senglea, is once again poised to captivate its patrons with an exhibition that promises to leave visitors in awe. This time, the gallery is proud to present over 20 remarkable artworks by the artist Godwin Cutajar, divided into three compelling series of self-portraits.

1. Deformed Self Portraits: The series evokes the sentiment of a deformed soul, one that is without identity. Through these works, Godwin captures the anguish and fragmentation of the human spirit, offering a profound commentary on the complexities of self-perception.
2. Multiple Self Portraits: In this series the artist presents multiple self portraits on the same canvas, each reflecting the myriad feelings and sentiments he experiences daily. The multiplication offers a layered and dynamic portrayal of emotional and human complexity
3. GodwiNU Self Portraits: Here Godwin, strips away all that is unnecessary, including elements that might hinder self-realization. These works aim to reveal the artist's true self, unencumbered and authentic, offering a raw and intimate glimpse into his personal journey.
These artworks have been developing since 1984, showcasing decades of dedication and deep sentiment. Godwin's meticulous craftsmanship and profound artistic vision are evident in each piece, making this exhibition a must-see for art enthusiasts and collectors alike. Most of the works are oil on canvas or oils on hardboard, with some featuring intentional lacunae, making the paintings more dynamic and integrated with their surroundings when displayed.
In his own words, these artworks can be seen as "photos of persons", as they potentially transmit the experiences and sentiments of each individual. This exhibition marks a significant milestone for Godwin, celebrating forty years since his very first self-portrait and the evolution of this artistic journey.
Godwin has proudly exhibited his works internationally in Italy, England, France, Germany, Canada, and China. Now, we invite you to join the Gallery in celebrating his profound body of works at Art by the Seaside Gallery. Both the gallery and Godwin extend their invitation to the readers, for the opening night on the 12th of July at 7.00 p.m.
