Beyond the Brush is Madeleine Vella Satariano's 5^th exhibition but her first in Gozo. Madeleine is greatly influenced by her surroundings. She loves Gozo and spends long periods there walking in the countryside and observing nature.

Nature has long been a source of inspiration to artists and throughout history many artists have focused their work on the natural world. Their work not only celebrates the beauty of nature but also serves as a reminder that we have to preserve it.

There are brilliant colours in the countryside made more so by the sun. The artist comments: "In that stillness, the sweet delicate singing of the birds is music to my ears and inspires me to hold on to it and replicate it on my canvas." Madeleine wants to celebrate the beauty of the natural world in her paintings.  "In these wide open spaces I find the liberty I always search for in my art. I love the elegant movement of the free galloping horses which allows me to express this feeling of energy and freedom," she comments.   "Even as I portray the beautiful Island of Gozo, my imagination runs wild and I try to express emotions that I am feeling at the time."  

As the title of the exhibition implies, many of her paintings (though not all), are fingerpainted. She explains: "This technique gives me a level of intimacy with my paintings which I cannot reach with the brush."

Beyond the Brush will be inaugurated on the 5^th July by the Hon. Minister for Gozo, Clint Camilleri at the Banca Guratale, Victoria, Gozo.  The exhibition closes  on the 21^st July 2024.
