Swimming: Kyle Micallef 0.09 seconds away from national record

Maltese swimmer Kyle Micallef achieved a most satisfactory re‐ sult when he was in action in the fifth heat of the 50 meter freestyle where Micallef, in lane number five, finished in second position out of the eight swim‐ mers in the fifth heat.

In the Paris La Defense Arena, Kyle Micallef did the 50 meters freestyle in 22.89 seconds, which heat was won by David Young of Fiji 22.71 seconds while in third place after Micallef, Tobi Si‐ jouade of Nigeria finished in 23.34 seconds.

In total, in the 50 meters free style there were ten heats for a total of 74 swimmers where with his time of 22.89 seconds, Kyle Micallef finished in 41st place in the general classifica‐ tion, a result that is one of the most positive in the context of the Olympics.

He was 0.09 seconds away from his own national record that he had set in July of this year in a time of 22'80 in the Euro‐ pean Aquatics championships in Belgrade.
