The final show by the popular trio who ran Vibe FM’s morning show was dropped by the radio show at the last minute on Friday morning.
Hosts Jonathan Abel, Martina Zammit and JD Patrick took to Facebook early on Friday morning to say that their final show after a decade at the radio station had been cancelled and replaced by a “best of recorded show.”
The radio hosts said that they had planned a three-hour live show “of final personal moments, great content, high-profile people lined up & much, much more.”
“The fact that we won't be able to deliver this show one last time makes us incredibly sad. Thank you for these 10 years. Onwards and upwards. Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall,” they wrote.
The trio had been one of the mainstays of Maltese radio, with a recent Broadcasting Authority survey showing that their programme – which hit Maltese airwaves every weekday morning – was the country’s second most popular radio show.
The exact reason as to why Friday morning’s show was axed remains unclear.
Vibe FM said in a “quick statement” that the show hadn’t been cancelled but said that the presenters had not respected conditions set by the radio station’s management.
“Just to clear up any misunderstanding, today's breakfast show was not cancelled and could have still gone on air; however, the presenters chose not to adhere to the respectful conditions recommended by management,” Vibe FM said.
On Thursday, the station had said that the following day was set to be the final show for the trio.
“Last year, we decided to make changes to our schedule. Change is the heartbeat of growth in every radio station. Despite best efforts from both sides over the past months, we couldn’t find a way to continue working together,” the radio station had said.
“We have many wonderful memories with them. They’ve been important contributors, and we feel truly blessed to have had them with us. We thank them and everyone who contributed to the show over the years. We can only wish them the very best in their future plans. Abel, JD and Martina: Thank you for all the great memories,” it added.
The radio hosts meanwhile told WhosWho.mt that they intended to continue running the show, but had decided to call it a day when they received news “that the trio would be disbanded.”
