In celebration of the 46th anniversary of India's Independence, the St Paul's Latin community - a society for Indian Roman Catholic believers in Malta - held a commemorative event on Thursday, 15 August, at the Alleluia Hall adjacent to the Franciscan Conventual Friary in St Paul's Bay.Mass was celebrated by Fr John Paul Vengackal, one of three Indian priests from Kerala serving at Our Lady of Sorrows Parish in St Paul's Bay.After mass, the congregation went down to the Belvedere, near Wignacourt Tower, where Fr John Paul delivered a short speach for Independence Day and hoisted the Indian flag accompanied by the singing of India's national anthem.Afterwards, back in the hall, Annie Weddel, a committee member, opened a discussion session to plan future events. Unfortunately, the cultural programme planned for the occasion had to be postponed due to the unavailability of Fr Damian Veliyil, the chaplain of the Indian community in Malta. At the end, delicious Indian food was served for lunch.
