Principal Permanent Secretary Tony Sultana has launched the publication "It-Twettiq tal-Baġit 2024," announcing that the budget implementation rate for 2024 is that of 84%.

This figure has risen by 3% since last year and gives further confidence in the implementation of next year's budget, as the Public Service remains the administrative right hand of the government, a statement by the Ministry for Finance and the Office of the Principal Permanent Secretary read.

Tony Sultana, together with Minister for Finance Clyde Caruana, was visiting officials at the finance ministry who are working on the 2025 budget's final touches. This budget will be presented in Parliament on Monday, 28 October 2024.

The Head of the Public Service Tony Sultana explained that 423 measures had been presented in the 2024 budget, and although this exceeded almost a hundred measures more than in the previous year, the rate of implementation had improved again. "This is the result of strong coordination between directorates and departments, entities, and ministries, working hand in hand, with strong structures, in a scientific manner, and continuous reporting."

Among the 2024 budget measures implemented, Tony Sultana mentioned the completion of the school in Msida which is the first fully carbon neutral school, the grant of €500 to every family where children continue with education after their 16th birthday, a strong investment in the health sector including an increase in free medicines, the renovation of more health centres and a new collective agreement for teachers.

He also mentioned the strengthening of tax credits for those who continue to study, a new jury chamber, a new clinic at the Floriana Home for the Elderly and the regularisation of temping and outsourcing agencies so that these workers will have equal payments and rights for other workers.

Minister for Finance Clyde Caruana stated that Malta's economic performance has placed the country in a position to present another positive budget that benefits the public while fostering growth.

He also stated: "I am confident that our goal is to create another socially equitable budget that enables our families and businesses to thrive. There will be no disruption to our economic trajectory; instead, we will maintain the government's signature stability and reassurance."

The publication "It-Twettiq tal-Baġit 2024" contains a list of all measures announced in the budget 2024, and a report of the state of play on each one. Apart from this, the publication gives an analysis of the economic performance and a report on the work carried out by Malta this year in international forums.
