Sunday, 24 November 2024, 08:50 Last update: about 3 years ago

The fifth book in the series about Karamellu tar-Raħal t'Isfel has been released.

Through this new publication Karamellu's reader friends now have 50 stories available about their favourite character.

In the stories of the fifth book, which, like the previous four books, is embellished with charming and colourful illustrations, the reader finds Karamellu in more delightful adventures at a time when he was growing up significantly, while also able to learn the meaning of some

Maltese language expressions, like qamar fil-bir and nar tat-tiben.

The stories also introduce the reader to certain characters who have become extinct in Maltese life, such as the conductor who used to be on every public transport bus, and the tinsmith who you could then find in almost every village.

Since various people have expressed interest in purchasing the Karamellu books to give as a Christmas gift to their dear children, the publishers made it a point to have the new book issued in the weeks leading up to the holiday season.

The stories include one in which Karamellu brings to life an idea of his about the famous comic actor Charlie Chaplin, whom he had grown up watching in black and white films.

Another story is about a boy who used to pinch his friends and because of him, through no fault of his own, Karamellu was on the verge of coming out as an idiot in front of a church full of children.

The book also contains a story about a young Italian man who goes to Ir-Raħal t'Isfel in search of two of Karamellu's grandparents. This young man, to everyone's surprise, kisses Karamellu's grandmother and calls her, dolcissima Vincenza.

In other stories, the reader accompanies Karamellu and his friends on a truly exciting journey to Valletta and back by bus, stays with him until the mystery of a door knocking at night is solved, and meets Karamellu's friend who was known as Il-Mangliż and who, thanks to him, Karamellu also learns the reason behind the birth of the so-called Banda ta' Indri.

The new book can be purchased from Book Distributors Limited (BDL Books).
