The recent past revisited

Marie Benoît Saturday, 28 December 2024, 08:00 Last update: about 6 months ago

I picked a few random photos from my desktop to remind us, at the end of another year, of a little of what happened in 2024 in the world of culture and entertainment. Busy, buzzing and sometimes mischievous, we try to give artists, writers and musicians as much publicity as possible and to encourage them in their endeavours. We try to give a hearing to as many voices as space will allow.

Our menagerie is growing. More and more are taking up their pens and their paint brushes not forgetting musical instruments and voices. Many are utterly absorbed in their task and often go from a fulltime job to paint, sing, dance, practice their favourite instrument and so on.

What I notice is that there is simply not enough appropriate space for artists to exhibit their creations. Lighting, space layout and accessibility to visitors should be considered above all.

In July we lost two much loved artists: Winston Hassall and Mark Mallia. May they rest in peace where pain and suffering are no more.

Here's  to another year of beauty of every kind. It's what keeps us going. A country without culture is like a face without a nose, someone once said. So true.

Welcome 2025!
