2B Gallery, located in the heart of St. Julian's and recognized by the striking mural painting by acclaimed artist James Vella Grimaud, www.2b.mt, is an exciting new addition to Malta's growing contemporary art scene. Dedicated to showcasing innovative works by locally based artists, the gallery has quickly become a space where fresh talent and bold artistic voices thrive. Founded by cousins Bengy and Josh, and now collaborating with Dr Joanna Delia, a passionate collector and advocate for contemporary art, 2B Gallery is committed to fostering meaningful connections between artists and collectors while expanding the boundaries of contemporary art appreciation in Malta.

Past exhibitions have highlighted diverse contemporary perspectives. In the last few months, 2B Gallery proudly showcased exhibitions by Sam Alekksandra, Aaron Bezzina, and Jean Paul Azzopardi, each bringing their unique perspectives and artistic flair to our vibrant space. Sam Alekksandra explored the duality of pain and pleasure through visual narrative using intricate themes through her thought-provoking artworks, captivating audiences and sparking meaningful conversations. Aaron Bezzina presented contemporary portraiture using the medium of brass and wood sculptures that garnered significant attention, solidifying his status as a leading figure in the Maltese art scene. Jean Paul Azzopardi invited viewers for his first solo exhibition in years, to engage deeply with his philosophical explorations through his medium of bone and art / print layering, enriching the gallery's offerings. For 2025, the gallery is introducing the photographic bodyworks of Charlene Galea known for challenging societal norms. The gallery's commitment to thought-provoking exhibitions continues to resonate with both art enthusiasts and collectors.

Upcoming Exhibition: Charlene Galea's 'Bodyworks' This April 6th, the gallery will present a photo-performance installation by Charlene Galea, a Maltese conceptual and performance artist whose work pushes boundaries in body politics, identity, and self-perception. Galea's multidisciplinary practice fuses performance, analog and digital photography, a variety of hands & models through movement, costume, and text to create immersive, thought-provoking experiences that challenge societal norms.

Galea's background in Creative Direction for Fashion and her MA in Digital Fine Arts have shaped her transition from fashion imagery to fine art, where she explores the complexities of the human body beyond commercial constraints. Her work is deeply personal yet universally resonant, often confronting themes of visibility, censorship, and self-ownership. She draws inspiration from Nan Goldin, Martin Creed, Cosey Fanni Tutti, and the Theatre of the Absurd movement, using her art to critique media influence and societal control over the body.

Her work has been exhibited internationally, including at Kleine Humboldt Galerie (Berlin), Mutuo Galeri (Barcelona), and École Nationale Supérieure de la Photographie (Arles, France). In Malta, her recent artist residency at MUŻA, Malta's National Museum, culminated in My Body is Not Your Business Card, a powerful performance confronting themes of shame, representation, and autonomy.

Described by Joanna Delia as "the Nan Goldin of Malta-fierce, authentic, and able to capture the rawness of our era flawlessly," Galea's work embodies the essence of contemporary art: disruptive, deeply engaging, and impossible to ignore. 'Bodyworks' reclaims the body from the male gaze, prompting audiences to reconsider how bodies are viewed and represented in today's world.

The exhibition opens with an invite-only installation on APRIL 6th, 2025, at 4 PM. Press, collectors, and art enthusiasts are welcome to experience Galea's bold vision. For further information please
