€4,315 has been raised through the "Mellieħa Qalb Waħda mat-Tfal Ukren" initiative for Ukrainian children affected by war.
The initiative was launched during the Mellieha Christmas 2024 event, with the initiative consisting of an exhibition of drawings made by Ukrainian children with messages against war and in favour of peace, with this being inaugurated by Deputy Prime Minister Ian Borg.
The drawings were brought to Malta by Nationalist Party MP Robert Cutajar in collaboration with the Maltese Embassy to Ukraine and the Mellieha Local Council, with many of those same drawings now being displayed in the Local Council buildings throughout the Northern Region following an initiative taken by the region and through a donation which saw the drawings be acquired and passed on to the Local Councils.
Maltese Ambassador John Debono and Consul Ian Scerri will be delivering the money raised directly to Ukraine, with the money going towards helping Ukrainian children who have been impacted by the effects of war. Along with the money raised, a board containing messages from Maltese children who participated in the activities held in Mellieha will also be delivered to Ukraine, with the board having been handed over by Cutajar to Debono and Scerri.
