Liam Sciberras has been elected as the new President of the Partit Nazzjonalista's College of Local Councillors (KKLPN).
He was appointed to the role during a meeting of the College held on Friday evening and will be succeeding Charles Bonello, who a week ago was appointed Secretary General of the PN, the party said.
Sciberras, 32, is a lawyer by profession and serves as a PN Local Councillor in the Santa Luċija Local Council, where he has also been the PN's Minority Leader since 2015.
He is the President of the PN's sectional committee in Santa Luċija and is also a member of the PN Executive Committee.
He was a PN candidate in the 2017 general election, contesting the first and fourth electoral districts.
In addition to chairing the College of Local Councillors, the President's responsibilities - along with the rest of the College - include:
- Providing a forum for Nationalist local councillors to share experiences and collaborate more effectively in service of their communities;
- Offering training and educational opportunities for local councillors, prospective candidates, and anyone interested in the workings of local councils;
- Maintaining contact with sectional committees in their respective localities, including attending their meetings and engaging with similar organisations abroad.
PN leader Bernard Grech congratulated Liam Sciberras on his appointment and wished him success in his new role.
