The government led by Robert Abela continues to make decisions that clearly show it does not distinguish between the executive role of the Government and the political role of the Partit Laburista, the Nationalist Party said Wednesday.
The PN said it considers the appointment of the Chief Executive Officer of the PL as a board member of JobsPlus to be a very dangerous manoeuvre, as it grants the PL leadership access to crucial data and information that the PL could use for partisan political purposes.
One must ask how, from among all the qualified individuals in our country, the government decided that the most suitable person for this position was the CEO of the PL, the PN said.
The presence of a political party's CEO on the board of JobsPlus, as reported by The Shift News, can only lead to political interference and a serious conflict of interest. For this reason, Leonid McKay can never be considered an impartial individual.
The PN said it believes that such manoeuvring, paid for by taxpayers' money, further undermines public trust in politics and demonstrates a serious lack of confidence in the competence of individuals who are willing to offer their service on similar boards and authorities. A government that barely promised meritocracy is now, through its actions, showing what it truly believes.
