Momentum demanded Monday that the Labour Party come clean with the Maltese people: "how much money have Zammit Tabona companies donated to Labour, particularly after the Fortina land grab"?
Momentum Chairperson, Arnold Cassola, said, "The scandal surrounding the Fortina deal is not just about one chairman of the Lands Authority signing off on a disastrous agreement. Chairmen do not act in a vacuum. It was the political masters who gave the green light and who must carry the responsibility.
The Labour Party cannot wash its hands by blaming Joseph Muscat and Keith Schembri alone. If Labour pocketed Zammit Tabona's money while handing over prime public land for a fraction of its value, then the rot runs right through the party. This is not a case of one or two bad apples but rather an entire system of political clientelism, cronyism, and the culture of 'donations' buying favours that has corroded our democracy."
Momentum Secretary General, Mark Camilleri Gambin, said, "The people of Malta deserve better. We deserve a country where public land is safeguarded for the common good, not sold off to enrich a handful of developers; political donations are fully transparent, so no business can buy influence in secret.; institutions act independently, instead of bending to the whims of party bosses; and parties are accountable, not only for what their leaders do, but also for the money they take and the decisions they make with it."
Momentum said it believes in a Malta where decisions are taken for the benefit of the many, not the wealth of the few. A Malta where good governance is not a slogan, but a lived reality with strong institutions, clean politics, and leaders who serve the people instead of selling us out.
Camilleri Gambin added, "The Labour Party has a choice to either disclose the truth about its relationship with Zammit Tabona and his companies, or confirm to the Maltese people that it has no intention of breaking free from the corrupt cycle that has captured our country."
Momentum said it will continue to shine a light on these scandals and fight for a Malta built on honesty, fairness, and good governance.
