The police are investigating the death of a one-year-old child.

In a statement, the police said that "the case occurred earlier today (Thursday), at 2pm in Msida."

The baby was found dead in a car in a parking area at Mater Dei Hospital.

TVM quoted sources as saying that the parents were both respected professionals in the health sector.

It reports sources also saying that when the mother went to pick up the baby from childcare, she was told the baby had not been dropped off, and that she then rushed to the car parked at Mater Dei and found the baby unresponsive.

The police said that investigations are ongoing and a magisterial inquiry was launched by Magistrate Monica Borg Galea.
