Prime Minister Robert Abela, accompanied by Minister for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation Clifton Grima, inaugurated the renovation project of Adrian Borg Primary School in Birkirkara.
The school has been completely transformed from an old building into a modern and sustainable educational facility, offering a more welcoming and pleasant environment for both children and educators, the government said in a statement on Wednesday.
With an investment of over €2 million, as part of the EDU Infrastructure Programme, extensive renovation and modernization works were carried out to provide students and educators with safer, more accessible, and better-equipped spaces that incorporate the latest technology. The facilities now include new classrooms, a multifunctional hall, and recreational and sports areas. In addition to aesthetic improvements, the renovation also introduced energy-efficient systems and a new lift to ensure full accessibility for everyone.
Prime Minister Abela visited several classrooms and met with children during their lessons and sports activities held to mark Schools Sports Day, organized by SportMalta. During his visit, the Prime Minister explained that the school represents more than just a modern building—it stands as a reflection of Malta’s values as a nation that believes in quality education and a future built on opportunities for every child.
“This investment is another step towards achieving our government’s goal in education: to have more modern schools that place students’ needs at the centre,” said Prime Minister Abela, emphasizing the government’s commitment to offering the very best for children.
Abela added that the government’s investment in education is not limited to infrastructure but also extends to educators, through improved salaries and working conditions, and to students, who are being provided with more digital learning tools to support their educational journey. He noted that free laptops are being distributed to 14,000 students aged 13 to 15 across all secondary schools in the country, while in primary schools, tablets continue to be provided to students from Year 4 onwards.
Minister Clifton Grima stated that this project demonstrates the government’s commitment to providing modern and safe learning environments that place children at the heart of education.
“Every investment like this means a better future for our students and stronger support for our educators,” said Minister Grima.
The school is named in memory of Adrian Borg, a student who lost his life in a tragic school accident in 2003. Today, this school stands as an educational environment that conveys a message of hope and a future built on strong education. Adrian Borg’s parents were present for the inauguration ceremony.
