The Malta Police Force and the National Audit Office (NAO) signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with the aim of improving the exchange of information and strengthening collaboration between the two institutions "in the fight against the abuse of public funds", the police said Saturday.

Through this agreement, communication between the two entities will be enhanced. At the same time, both entities will carry out joint training sessions and share best practices with the aim of improving effectiveness in investigative and oversight processes, the statement said.

This agreement forms part of the Police Force's "commitment to operate more efficiently", as stated in the Malta Police Corporate Strategy 2025-2030, which places good governance, transparency, and collaboration with external partners as fundamental pillars.

Prior to the signing of the Memorandum, the Auditor General, accompanied by officials from within the NAO, was briefed on the work of the Police Force in relation to financial investigations, and they were given the opportunity to observe the police's work in this field, the statement said.
