Speaker of the House of Representatives Anġlu Farrugia opened an art exhibition in aid of Dar tal-Providenza, held in the Parliament Foyer.

"This is not just another date on the calendar. It is a promise that continues to touch our hearts as a people," he said.

The Speaker stressed that this initiative has become a tradition reflecting Parliament's ongoing commitment to the common good and its support for people who require care and assistance. He thanked the residents of Dar tal-Providenza, as well as the workers and volunteers who work with dedication to ensure that every person is given care and dignity. Farrugia also praised Father Martin Micallef for his leadership and commitment.

In his address, the Speaker recalled that since the first time paintings began to be exhibited in Parliament in aid of Dar tal-Providenza, more than a quarter of a million euros have already been raised, bearing witness to the continued generosity of the Maltese and Gozitan people. He affirmed that Parliament will continue to support initiatives of solidarity and appealed for this generosity to persist in the future.

Meanwhile, in a few words, Fr Martin Micallef recalled how the exhibition forms part of the Festa of Generosity that Dar tal-Providenza organises every year on the first day of the year - an initiative that remains essential for the Home to be able to continue offering quality residential services to persons with disabilities. He thanked the Maltese and foreign artists who donated their works free of charge for this purpose, stating that these gestures of solidarity are concrete testimony to the social commitment that continues to characterise Maltese and Gozitan society.

He also recalled that over the years, through this exhibition in Parliament and the related auction, Dar tal-Providenza has managed to raise substantial funds that go directly towards the services offered to residents.
