A 24-year-old man has been handed a suspended prison sentence after admitting to a series of domestic violence offences against his mother and brother.

The charges stem from incidents in November and December 2025 and include making threats, causing criminal damage, hurling verbal abuse, and using electronic devices to harass members of his family.

Court records describe multiple episodes in which the man damaged his mother's Honda Fit and a CCTV camera, took his brother's mobile phone, and attempted to intimidate both relatives through verbal and physical threats. The situation escalated into dangerous driving and confrontations in the streets of Naxxar.

Inspector Audrey Micallef, who led the investigation, told the court that efforts to contact the accused were initially unsuccessful. During questioning, however, he showed remorse and was described as making a "cry for help" rather than displaying entrenched criminal behaviour.

Defence lawyer Amadeus Cachia said the accused had been experiencing emotional and personal difficulties over the past year, including the death of his father and a breakdown in his relationship with his mother. These circumstances, the defence argued, contributed to the conduct that led to the charges.

The parte civile, represented by Lennox Vella, asked the court to impose protective measures for the victims, including restraining orders and treatment for the accused. The court accepted these requests.

The man was sentenced to two years in prison, suspended for four years. He was also disqualified from driving for three months and placed under a three-year treatment order focusing on behavioural management and rehabilitation. A restraining order was issued to protect both his mother and brother.
