In 2025, Over €100,000 was spent on travels abroad by the Malta Film Commissioner and his delegations.
Information tabled in Parliament by culture Minister Owen Bonnici, in response to a Parliamentary Question posed by PN MP Ivan Bartolo, shows that in 2025.
The information shows that in 2025, €93,083 was spent on flights, €34,481 on accommodation, and €9,972 listed under per diem. These totals were spent over 10 trips.
On 8 of the trips, a private secretary accompanied the commissioner, and on four of the trips, consultants also did.
The priciest trip was between 14 September and 21 September, which included a Trade Mission to Dublin, Ireland, immediately followed by a trip to Los Angeles regarding the American Film Market. Flights for the Commissioner, the private secretary and consultants (one in Dublin and three in LA) cost €53,290 for that trip, while accommodation was €9,741.
In 2024, a total of €29,665 was spent on flights, €19,470 on accommodation and €6,567 was listed as per diem, and this was over a total of 8 trips.
Minister Bonnici said that on these occasions the Commission meets with other counterparts to continue promoting the package that Malta offers in this sector, "so that more investment, productions, and films can be attracted to Malta. Everyone benefits from this work."
