A tower crane which was the source of concern for Qormi residents due to the string winds has been dismantled. 

On Friday, the Building and Construction Authority and the Occupational Health and Safety Authority were notified through the 138 helpline of a potentially dangerous tower crane located in Triq l-Imdina, Qormi.

Officials from both authorities, together with other entities on site, carried out a joint operation to address the situation. With the assistance of a private contractor, the cabin of the crane - identified as the main source of risk - was dismantled and safely lowered.

Further inspections by the Building and Construction Authority confirmed that the remaining structure did not pose a danger. Inspectors also identified loose material on site that could have presented additional risk, and this was immediately removed.

As a precautionary measure, some residents were temporarily evacuated. Authorities stressed, however, that the situation remained under control at all times, with the support of the Civil Protection Department Malta, the police, Transport Malta, and officials from Mater Dei Hospital.

Once it was confirmed that no further danger existed, residents were allowed to return and the area was declared fully safe. Authorities reiterated the importance of reporting similar concerns through the 138 helpline.
