Prime Minister Robert Abela, accompanied by the Minister for Inclusion and the Voluntary Sector, Julia Farrugia, visited the Karl Vella Foundation on Friday.
The Karl Vella Foundation is a voluntary organisation that offers psychotherapeutic services to families and individuals dealing with illness or loss.
During this visit, the Prime Minister of Malta toured the building in which this Foundation operates and met with its management and staff. They outlined the Foundation's future vision - which includes the development of specialised home care services - to him.
The Karl Vella Foundation presently supports more than 500 people, including children and adults, through services provided free of charge by qualified mental health professionals. The Foundation's mission is to create a comfortable and supportive environment for families going through difficult moments in their lives.
During this visit, PM Abela and Minister Farrugia spoke with several people who have benefitted from the Foundation's services. Through these interactions, they were able to better understand the positive impact that the Karl Vella Foundation is having on the lives of children, young people, adults, and families.
The Karl Vella Foundation offers various programmes to support children and youths between the ages of 5-17 who are suffering from illness or the loss of loved ones. It also offers initiatives aimed at those undergoing treatment for serious illnesses in Malta and abroad.
For adults, the Foundation offers services through the Because you Matter and Beyond Loss programmes.
In addition, the Foundation provides individual therapy sessions to people of all ages. It also invests in continuous training so that more parenting professionals and employees in educational and psychosocial sectors are equipped to address these kinds of situations.
Prime Minister Abela praised the Karl Vella Foundation's work and acknowledged the valued service it offers to Maltese and Gozitan families. PM Abela stated that organisations like these are a clear example of solidarity, empathy, and commitment to human wellbeing - especially in difficult times.
He also thanked the Foundation's leadership, professionals, and volunteers for their dedication, noting that their work is making a real difference in the lives of many people and families.
In its statement on this visit, the Office of the Prime Minister declared that the government remains committed to supporting and encouraging initiatives that place people at the centre of their work and that continues to bolster support in mental health, social services, and dignified care for all who need it.
