The Ministry for Transport, Infrastructure and Public Works said that 1,000 road interventions have been completed across Malta over the past two years, describing it as a key step in strengthening the country's infrastructure.

In a statement, the Ministry said that the works, carried out by Infrastructure Malta, ranged from large-scale projects involving the complete rebuilding of roads to resurfacing and maintenance works.

It added that several interventions also included upgrades to underground services and efforts to address traffic bottlenecks in strategic areas.

According to the Ministry, these works are intended to improve road safety, provide more comfortable journeys and increase efficiency in everyday travel.

It also highlighted that the programme was carried out in close collaboration with Local Councils, allowing works to be extended beyond arterial roads to include residential streets in various localities.

The roadworks were undertaken alongside other major projects, including developments at Msida Creek, Buġibba square and regeneration works in Wied il-Għajn.

The ministry said these initiatives are aimed at transforming key areas and addressing challenges that have persisted for years.

It added that communication with the public was prioritised throughout the process, with regular updates issued on the progress of works.

This, the ministry said, helped strengthen cooperation from residents and contributed to building trust in the projects.

Chris Bonett said that reaching this milestone reflected both the scale of the work carried out and the government's long-term direction.

"Achieving 1,000 roads in two years represents an important milestone," he said, adding that it also serves as "a foundation for further investment in the future."

Bonett said the government's commitment is to "continue building a modern, sustainable and planned infrastructure, which meets the needs of the country," adding that the programme is not only about numbers but about long-term planning and delivery.

He added that the works are the result of "the collective commitment of various professionals and workers," including architects, contractors and technical teams, who are contributing daily to the implementation of projects for the good of the community.
