The 74-year-old St Julian's resident arrested following Friday's shooting of two police officers in Ta' Giorni is scheduled to face court on Sunday morning.
John Agius was taken into custody after a 90-minute standoff involving a fire at a nearby construction site and gunfire directed at law enforcement.
Special Intervention Unit sergeant Johann Vella suffered serious injuries to his face and neck during the incident, while Constable Omar Sharif sustained minor injuries while trapped inside the building with the gunman during negotiations.
Vella was reported to be in stable condition, although he remains in intensive care.
Police commissioner Angelo Gafa on Friday said that the suspect will be arraigned within the 48-hour limit.
