The students received a total of Lm2,100 between them. This is the 22nd year since the introduction of the scheme during which 560 travel bursaries were distributed to 454 students. This year a total of 37 applications were received, of which 21 were selected. The funds are intended to help with the relatively high costs of overseas tertiary studies.

The selection board included chairman, Francis Stivala, who is also NSTF secretary-general, Mr Paul Gonzi and Mr Damian Kovac. This year two students awarded bursaries will be pursuing degrees in Soil Mechanics and Archaeological and Environmental Technology, in line with the foundation’s policy to help

preserve national heritage.

The foundation was set up in 1977 by university students with the aim of encouraging Maltese students to further their studies overseas. NSTF is mostly funded through sponsorships and donations.
