Sources told TMID that someone broke into the offices of three lecturers from the Faculty of Education and the Chemistry Department and removed computer equipment from both offices. One of the computers found missing from the Chemistry Department was the property of the lecturer in question.

The equipment is not considered to be of great value, but the data it contains is, and may include statistics of unpublished research.

It seems that the thieves were after the equipment itself as nothing else was touched in either office. “I would exclude the idea that the thieves were after documents in the offices or data in the computers they have taken away. I didn’t have time to check all the documents but none of the filing cabinets seems to have been broken into,” one of the lecturers told TMID.

The university seems to have become the target of burglaries recently, with reports of car thefts from vehicles parked in the ring road.

TMID contacted the university’s Communication Department to ask whether it will be taking measures to prevent such incidents from happening again. However, the department said it did not have a position on the matter and asked to receive our written query via email.
