AD Consolidates its core support – Harry Vassallo

Malta Independent Monday, 14 March 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

Although Alternattiva Demokratika considered the result of the local council elections as a confirmation of its foundations in the localities in which it contested, the party acknowledged that its full potential has not yet been realised.

In his reaction to the local council election results, AD chairman Harry Vassallo claimed that the five per cent obtained by Alternattiva Demokratika in the six localities in which it contested shows the party has consolidated its core support on a local level.

Dr Vassallo described the result as encouraging since the party has, for the fourth time, obtained more than five per cent of the votes in the election it contested. He expressed his satisfaction that in St Paul’s Bay, AD was a handful of votes away from electing its candidate.

AD contested the election in six localities. The votes obtained by the party were 7.6 per cent in Pembroke, 7.5 per cent in Iklin, 6.7 per cent in St Paul’s Bay, 5.8 per cent in St Julian’s, 3.2 per cent in Mellieha and 2.7 per cent in Nadur.

The Green Party spoke of its appreciation for the voters who trusted it and of the confidence the AD candidates showed in their commitment to defend the rights of residents all over the Maltese islands.
