television aerial with immediate effect.

The ruling, which was effective for three months, was delivered after the Director of the Office of Fair Trading requested the Commission to take temporary measures in respect of Melita Cable.

In its ruling, the Commission said that the Office of Fair Trading had proven that the practice adopted by Melita of blocking transmission can cause prejudice to other enterprises and could also cause damage to the economy in general.

The Commission also said that the exclusivity deal brokered by Melita to broadcast the World Cup impedes and hinders fair competition in Malta to the serious detriment of the consumer.

The Commission ordered that the measures be enforced immediately and will run for a period of three months.
