Roger Tirazona and Eleanor Spiteri, two members of the popular Trilogy trio, have won the first prize in this year’s prestigious Discovery Pop Festival held in Varna, Bulgaria during the past weekend. The other Trilogy member, Cliff Zammit, could not make it to Bulgaria due to his exam commitments.
The song Time for Love, composed by Paul Abela and lyrics written by Joe Julian Farrugia (the same duo who wrote Trilogy’s This Heart of Mine), placed first in this festival; winning despite the very high level, talent and tough competition met.
Joe Julian Farrugia has won this festival the second time round, since he also won it three years ago with a song written for Julie and Ludwig, who were also guests during this edition. The Discovery Pop Festival is the only international festival held in Bulgaria and singers from all over Europe and beyond are invited. Competing with Roger and Eleanor there were singers like Alexandra and Konstantin, who represented Belarus in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2004, and Luca Sepe from Italy who participated in the Sanremo Festival twice, along with a line-up of equally talented international singers.
The result was decided by an international expert jury.
Roger and Eleanor were accompanied by author Joe Julian Farrugia and Malta’s participation in this festival could not have been possible without the help of Mr Robert Cefai, Mr Ignatius Farrugia and Ms Mariella Scerri of Orienta.
Varna is an exquisite Bulgarian city which greatly attracts tourists, built on a magnificent port in the Black Sea. It has hosted this festival for 15 years and is considered as the Bulgarian cultural capital. The Discovery Foundation organises the festival under the able direction of Dono Tsvetkov.
