The Nationalist Party (PN) welcomed the election of French MEP Joseph Daul as president of the European People’s Party and European Democrats (PPE-DE) in the European Parliament (EP).
The PN said the election of Mr Daul will undoubtedly give an extra push to the biggest political alliance in the EP in view of the challenges posed by the accession of Bulgaria and Romania and the expansion of the eurozone.
The PPE-DE, said the PN has always been inspired by its Christian Democrat values to work for European integration.
The party extended its best wishes to outgoing president Hans-Gert Poettering who saw over the integration of MEPs from new EU countries to the PPE-DE. Mr Poettering will be contesting the post of EP president.
