Gymstars Gymnastics Club closed the year 2006 on a high note with an impressive Festival of Gymnastics and Dance at the Sports Complex in Cottonera before a capacity audience. The atmosphere was great and the audience was thrilled by the mixture of dance and gymnastics as performed by around 350 students of the club.
This was an unique festival of fast exciting gymnastics, human pyramids and dances to some beautiful music with various themes. The routine was creatively put together by the experienced choreographers and coaches of the club during the last six weeks. This was not a competitive festival but to create confidence, self esteem and to show children the value of sport.
The grand finale was the medley of Christmas Carols sang by all the students and coaches accompanied by the public. Christmas atmosphere reached its best when Christmas Father went round giving gifts to all participants.
A word of appreciation goes to all participants, coaches, parents, helpers and to the organisers.
Gymstars had a very positive 2006 with some very good results in local and international competitions. Athletes from the club did well in local competitions, whilst abroad they had some impressive results in the Island Games in Sicily, the Schools International in Greece, and in Colchester and Budapest. In the latter competition the youngsters left a good impression and proved that the club is on the right track.
The club organised the third international competition with a record number of foreign clubs and the demand is big for the fourth edition next July.
One can look forward with confidence for a good 2007. Indications are positive. Athletes from the club will be representing Malta in Monaco for the Small Nations Games for the first time next May. Francesca Borg, Audrey Schembri, Nicolette Schembri, Roxanne Bonnici, Philip Caruana Turner, Isaac and Matthias Camilleri are presently undergoing prepartion under the watchful eyes of the Bulgarian coaches Angelov Plamen and Matthew Lulev.
Young athletes that had made substantial progress during the past year include Kirsty Caruana, Martina Gales, Tara Dalli, Nicole Pace, Mia Vickery, Adreana Zammit, Ryan Busuttil, Simon and Keith Gravino, Carl Cumbo, Nicky Vassallo, Andrea Mugliett, Miguel Galea and Alexander Fenech.
It all clearly shows that when careful investment is done in promising athletes, positive results can be achieved. Gymstar is showing the way and is also proud to be involved in the development of the sport with the Gymnastics Federation.
