Court: Incidents During hunters’ protest: Two more men arraigned

Another two men were charged yesterday with their involvement in the incidents that took place in Valletta during the hunters’ protest on 7 March.

Last week, the first four men were arraigned in connection with the incidents. During this protest, journalists and photographers were assaulted and photographic equipment was destroyed and stolen in the racket.

In separate sittings, Marco Bonnici, 21, and Godfrey Camilleri, 27, both from Rabat, pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against them.

Mr Bonnici was charged with attempting to drive a vehicle in the direction of policemen and other people, with assaulting and threatening public service officers and with forming part of a group of more than 10 people with the intention of committing a crime.

He was further accused of falsifying and using a set of registration plates licensed on another vehicle, and of leaving an unattended Nissan Vanette parked irregularly. He was charged with driving recklessly, driving the vehicle in Valletta without the necessary licence, contravening traffic signs and breaching the peace.

Mr Bonnici was granted bail against a deposit of Lm1,000 and a personal guarantee to the same amount.

In a separate sitting, Mr Camilleri was charged with forming part of a group of more than 10 people with the intention of committing a crime, disobeying police orders and breaching the peace.

He was granted bail against a personal guarantee of Lm500.

Magistrate Giovanni Grixti presided over the court.

Senior Police Inspector Pierre Micallef-Grimaud and Inspector Anthony Portelli prosecuted.

Dr Alexia Zrinzo Azzopardi and Dr Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi appeared for Mr Bonnici, while Dr Gavin Gulia appeared for Mr Camilleri.
