II DIVISION

Balzan Y-Mgarr Utd 4-1

Balzan Youths were close after three minutes with Kurt Coleiro’s shot being saved by Kevin Ellul with Mgarr replying in the 13th minute through Eric Sciberras whose effort went inches wide of the far post.

At the other end Kurt Coleiro headed just wide from a cross by Gilbert Scerri but they broke the deadlock on 21 minutes as a good move between Gilbert Scerri and David Mamo ended with Antoine Sacco’s strong shot beating Ellul.

Balzan again went close through Kurt Coleiro and Jerryton Agius and in the 38th minute they increased their lead through Aaron Agius’ strong header. In the 43rd minute a good move between Aaron Agius and Antoine Sacco led to Balzan’s third goal scored by Kurt Coleiro in the 43rd minute but seconds before the end of the first-half Mgarr pulled a goal back through a close-range shot by Chris Abela.

Two minutes after the restart the Balzan goalkeeper brought off a difficult save to deny Malcolm Bugeja with the Youths coming back through two attempts by Gilbert Scerri. They also wasted a clear opportunity through Kurt Coleiro but they managed to score a fourth and final goal in the 85th through a strong header by substitute Alistair Camilleri. Late in the match Mgarr went close through Matthew Muscat.

Melita vs San Gwann 2-1

Melita were close after only four minutes through Matthew Borg I and the same player managed to score in the 11th minute but he was in a clear offside position and the goal was disallowed.

Gradually the Saints dictated the run of player and missed the target on two occasions through Clint Gatt and Malcolm Tirchett.

In the 30th minute the Melita custodian Sapiano denied the Saints off a Ryan Newell free-kick but it was Melita who took the lead four minutes later as Matthew Borg I rounded the Saints’ keeper and shot into an empty net.

The Saints’ reaction produced a deserved equaliser in the 45th minute through a Lee Cumbo direct free-kick. Melita played the better football after the change of ends and they were denied by the Saints’ keeper Spiteri in the 57th minute as he saved successive shots by Matthew Borg I and David Azzopardi.

Then Julian Galea hit just wide from close-range and in the 75th minute a shot by David Azzopardi was cleared off the line by Malcolm Tirchett. Melita then wasted an easy opportunity through Matthew Borg I but in the 90th minute the same player was fouled by Saints’ defender Clayton Giordemaina when in a clear goal scoring opportunity. Giordemaina was sent off and the Amateurs were given a penalty which was scored by Matthew Borg I.

III DIVISION

Attard vs Zebbug R 0-2

Attard won a free-kick after just three minutes with Firas Aboulezz hitting just wide. In the 10th minute Attard were very close with Floyd Farrugia finding Clive Lanzon with a through-pass but Clive Lanzon lost the ball infront of goal.

The Rangers broke the deadlock in the 15th minutes as a cross by Errol Cachia from the right flank was finished off by George Saliba and just before the end of the first-half Attard went close through Clive Lanzon.

Play resulted mainly in the midfield sector after the change of ends with the Rangers making it 2-0 on 75 minutes through Lawrence Vella. Late in the match the Attard keeper Formosa turned the ball onto the crossbar to deny Keith Farrugia.

Siggiewi vs Fgura U 2-1

After just five minutes Siggiewi were denied by Ranier Farrugia off a shot by Josef Vassallo. Gradually Fgura pushed forward and went very close through Clint Ellul and Eric Lia but they broke the deadlock in the 32nd minute through Rodney Galea following good work on the right flank by Clint Ellul.

Siggiewi replied through Eman Ciappara who wasted a glaring opportunity as he shot wide infront of goal. Two minutes into the second period Josef Micallef obtained Siggiewi’s equaliser through a well-taken free-kick and on the hour a good move by Stephen

Said led to Siggiewi's second goal scored by Eman Ciappara. Fgura’s late pressure was well controlled by a very organised Siggiewi defence.
