In response to a statement by Nationalist Party candidate Clyde Puli that his party would never form a coalition with Alternattiva Demokratika, AD’s leader said that such extremism and irresponsibility have become characteristic of certain people who have made it into the higher echelons of the PN.
“I am curious to know whether the Puli outburst in a live television programme will be endorsed by his party leader,” Harry Vassallo said.
“I would indeed be very surprised if Lawrence Gonzi shares Mr Puli’s fundamental aversion to everything Green, since he spent several sessions discussing a possible coalition with the Greens in 2003,” Dr Vassallo said.
“Alternattiva Demokratika has had the courtesy to publish its coalition proposals in anticipation of the election, for our counterparts and all voters to have prior notice. What we have, in response, is a fundamentalist rejection from Clyde Puli.
The extremism this implies, takes Puli out of the PN tradition and places him somewhere even further to the right,” said Dr Vassallo.
