Alfred Sant has come face to face with the fact that his proposal to halve the power surcharge would create too big a dent in public funds. For this reason the Labour Party has now excluded shops, the self-employed, business owners, tourism and industry from its proposal.

“Alfred Sant is today saying that the proposal applies only for houses,” said the PN in a statement.

“The Labour Party’s statement of 11 August, 2007 clearly says that ‘with the reduction of half the surcharge, businesses in our country shall find that they have less burdens’.

This was emphasised by Dr Sant himself during a discourse in Bugibba as well as in an article he wrote for It-Torca. Now Dr Sant has suddenly changed the message, and made another U-turn because the surcharge promise shall not apply for shops, the self-employed and businesses,” the PN said.

“No wonder that Alfred Sant used a ballerina for Labour’s campaign, he does not want to stop dancing from one proposal to the next – today he says one thing and the next day he says something totally different,” the PN added.
