Court hearings delayed due to lack of police escort

Malta Independent Friday, 4 October 2013, 11:29 Last update: about 13 years ago

Magistrate Audrey Demicoli today gave a decree, ordering it to be sent to the Home Affairs Minister and prison director, among others, after cases that were to be heard at 9am were postponed for over an hour-and-a-half because there was no police escort.

The prisoners needed to be transferred from the courts lock up to the court room.

The two cases were to be heard at 9am and the court had other cases to be heard subsequently. In its decree, the court noted this is something that happens frequently creating great inconvenience for the court itself, lawyers and prosecuting officers.

Magistrate Demicoli ordered her decree to be sent to the Home Affairs Ministry, the prison director and the Parliamentary Secretary for Justice.
